Event photography is one of the more unique skillsets that can only be sharpened through failure. I have been fortunate to work in many spaces that come with challenges unique to event work. I'm talking about cheerleading competitions, where one must produce 600 images (200 useful) during a 3 minute performance. This "spray and pray" method goes against everything they teach in art school, but after a few 10 hour days I started using it to develop a second nature for where "the moment" might land. I look at event work as a state of heightened instinct. To me it feels like I'm the one on stage, no room for error.
